Strength Isn't Everything, But You're Really Nothing Without it

Brute force is something that many of us don’t see as a reliable approach to fighting. I don’t like to think of ourselves as the savage brutes that we used to be, even though we still have that instinct embedded in our genes. Instead I would rather think of ourselves as an advanced species that use reason and rationalize when facing adversity. Now I’m not saying that we don’t need to be strong in a fight let alone posses superhuman-like strength because many have and used it to their advantage.

Keep it Standing: Why Grappling is Not Always Good For the Street

In MMA it’s a bad decision to enter the arena without having at least some knowledge of grappling.  The same can be said for the streets.  One thing that does baffle me though is the belief that a pure ground fighting system is meant for the streets.  I don’t believe that this is always the case.  Ground fighting is only one range of attack so why would you want to limit yourself to that?  It’s no different from someone who only knows how to box.  What’s even worse is when you have the “know-it-alls” post on the internet and bash on the other arts.  They go to lengths trying to prove that grappling is the best, how all fights will end up on the ground, and all that other stuff that most martial artists already know about.  Okay, knowing how to grapple is extremely important, but you also have to consider that you can roll all day in a sporting match.  However it’s a whole different story out on the street.
